About High Country
Spacious log vacation homes and camping cabins await your arrival in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills. Ranch activities include trail rides, ATV rentals, heated outdoor swimming pool, biking and hiking on the Mickelson Trail, family-friendly entertainment, general store, fire pits and hot tubs. Home-cooked breakfast is served up at our Grille & Pub, Thursday thru Monday, all summer season. Close to Mount Rushmore & Crazy Horse, it’s the perfect place for your Black Hills vacation! NOTE: because we are located in a little valley, we cannot offer wifi or good cell service…another reason to focus on your v-a-c-a-t-i-o-n! Our lodging is open year-round, so skip the crowds and make plans to visit during off-season…rates are great & the views are still spectacular!
Choose between spacious log vacation homes, one-room cabins, or camping cabins for your stay at High Country.
The vacation homes have fully stocked kitchens with dining/living areas and range from 1 bedroom+loft up to 7 bedrooms. Some homes have Jacuzzis, hot tubs, pool table or fireplace. All homes have DirecTV, AC, heat, fire pits, grills & picnic tables.
Cowboy Cabins sleep 4 and are individual log cabins with 2 queen beds, bathroom, small dinette, DirecTV, dorm fridge, microwave, coffee pot. Each Cowboy Cabin has a front deck with a table & 4 chairs, hibachi grill, AC & heat. The 4 Cowboy Cabins share an outdoor hot tub and large fire pit.
Native American Camping Cabins sleep 6 and are roomy one-room cabins with 2 queen camping bunks, 2 twin bunks, table & chairs, kitchenette with sink, dorm fridge, microwave, coffee pot, TV for movies, bathroom, AC & heat. Outdoors each camping cabin has a hibachi grill and picnic table. These 6 cabins are true “camping cabins” and DO NOT come with bedding & towels unless requested for an additional fee.

Take a trail ride in the beautiful Black Hills National Forest with our friendly wranglers—a must-do for your Black Hills vacation. Choose from morning & afternoon ride times 6 days a week, Mon-Sat. Riders must be at least 6 years old; maximum weight 260 pounds. Call 605-574-9003 for reservations. Trail rides are operated with a special-use permit from the BH National Forest. (Limited rides during Sturgis Rally Week.)
Brulé brings world-class entertainment to the Black Hills in what’s been called a “Native American experience in sight, sound and soul.” Traditional American Indian dancers in colorful regalia present a stunning visual of the culture, along with the unique music & message of Brulé. Summer performances run Monday through Thursday nights at 7 pm, July 10 – 27, 2017, outdoors at the beautiful High Country Theater. In partnership with Following the 7th Direction, all 2017 concerts are FREE! Come early and enjoy an Indian Taco or wood-fire pizza at the High Country Grille & Pub. Seating is 1st come, 1st serve; gates & grille open at 4 pm. (NO outside food, drinks, coolers or pets allowed.)
The popular Circle B Chuckwagon & Cowboy Music Show entertains guests in Dakota Hall, serving up tasty cowboy dinners and western harmonies six nights a week (Mon-Sat) Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. Bring the young’uns and take a step back in time with western activities or browse the gift shop while you wait for the must-see shootout with Sheriff Dale and the Biscuit Bandit! We cater events, large or small! Family reunions, retreats, banquets, special events–indoors or outdoors, let us do the cooking for you. Dakota Hall is our spacious dining hall that holds up to 225 people. Outdoors, groups can gather on the covered patio at the High Country Grille & Pub with seating up to 100 people. Word has spread about our mouth-watering BBQ Babyback ribs and famous fire-baked pizzas–both are the best in the hills! Wine, beer & Coca-Cola products are available. Choose our scenic mountain meadow setting for your ranch wedding! We offer both indoor and outdoor ceremony options. Dakota Hall has seating up to 225 indoors; outdoors the High Country Theater can accommodate 300 guests. The beautiful scenery surrounding the ranch makes for picturesque backdrops for wedding photos. We have lodging for guests up to 200 people with a list of services and options that will make your wedding spectacular!
Explore the Black Hills on ATV! With over 3,000 miles of roads and marked trails in the Black Hills National Forest, you’ll see everything from mountaintop panoramas, rippling creeks, wildlife, forests & meadows, and more. Ride for an hour or the whole day on our side-by-side Honda ATVs. Rentals are open to ranch guests & non-guests alike; 4-seater or 2-seater machines. GPS programming will guide you on your adventure, including directions back to the ranch. Your off-road experience will be the highlight of your Black Hills vacation!
